Anukwe and WWF Colombia have joined forces in an agreement to establish a civil society nature reserve on Anukwe land and to protect and conserve the native fauna and flora of the Donama Valley. The project envisages the future creation of a biodiversity corridor of more than 3,000 acres of land that extends between Tayrona National Park and Sierra Nevada National Park, areas that are home to endemic species such as jaguar, ñeques, guartinajas, tapirs, howler monkeys, and ocelots. The project also includes key conservation and restoration goals – including a plan to restore 70% of the Sierra Nevada’s native trees and to capture at least 7,500 tonnes of carbon annually.
